What’s a Myrtle?

This morning, my mom and I headed to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for a weekend trip and to get my Myrtle Beach shot glass! We left Columbia, SC around 7 am and arrived in Myrtle Beach around 10:30 am. Our first stop was the beach! We walked along the beach for about an hour. We were going to walk on the pier, but you had to pay to walk on it, so we decided not to. We walked past the Skywheel. The Skywheel is similar in size to the one in Brighton and Washington D.C. and is like a smaller version of the one in London. I originally wanted to ride it in the evening, but after seeing that all you could really see from it would be the ocean, we decided it wasn’t worth the high price of admission. We went to a few souvenir shops including one called the Gay Dolphin that had so many pieces of dolphin decor! We then headed off to Broadway at the Beach, which is where the Hard Rock Cafe is located.

We went to the Hard Rock Cafe for lunch (and I acquired my shot glass!) Then we walked around and went to a few more souvenirs shops and a Christmas store. Broadway at the Beach reminded me of Downtown Disney because it was a bunch of shops with a small lake in the middle. After walking around for a while, we decided to go to the Tanger Outlets and Ross to do a little shopping. Then we went to our hotel in Little River, SC and checked into our hotel.

After relaxing at our hotel for a little, we decided to drive to Cherry Grove Beach (the closest beach to our hotel) and walk along the beach at sunset. Since Myrtle Beach is on the East Coast, the sun did not set behind the ocean, but it was still very pretty! We then went to Bob Evans for dinner (a restaurant that we loved to go to in Ohio and that is not in Columbia  😦 ) After our yummy dinner, we went back to the hotel and got ready for bed.

In the morning, we got up around 8 am and had breakfast at our hotel. We then looked through a guidebook in our hotel and found a riverwalk in Conway, SC that looked pretty cool. We decided to drive to Conway and go to the riverwalk since it was on our way home. The riverwalk was really cool! The river looked like black tar! It looks like that because of the way the plant material decays in the water. We walked the entire riverwalk; it was probably a mile each way. Around 11:30 am, we decided that we should probably head home.

On our way home, we took a scenic highway so that we wouldn’t have to look at the same things that we saw the day before. We drove through Florence on the way and stopped in Camden (outside of Columbia) for lunch. We arrived back in Columbia around 2 pm. Overall, it was a great trip! It was nice to get away for the weekend!
