California Dreamin’

Thursday, July 22nd, 10:36 PM:

This morning, my parents and I started our trip to San Francisco, California! My dad is attending a conference out there, so my mom and I decided to tag along. This is my first trip west of the Mississippi! We left New Concord, Ohio around 11 AM and arrived at my grandparent’s house in Cleveland, Ohio around 1 PM. My grandparents are going to watch our dog while we are gone. My grandpa drove us to the Cleveland airport around 4 PM and we boarded our flight to San Francisco at 6:35 PM. The flight was good. We arrived at the San Francisco airport at 8:42 PM. We got our bags and found a taxi to take us to our hotel. The taxi ride took about 45 minutes. We arrived at our hotel (the San Francisco Marriott Marquis) around 10 PM. Now we are getting ready for bed because we are still on Ohio time, where it is 1 AM!

This morning we got up and had breakfast at the hotel. We then decided to go find the cable cars and go to Fisherman’s Wharf. The cable car was so much fun! Since it was our first time, we sat inside. However, we saw people hanging off the side and my dad and I decided to try that next time! We got passes to ride the cable cars at our leisure. We arrived at Fisherman’s Wharf and decided to go to the Aquarium of the Bay. I love aquariums! This aquarium was really cool because it had reptiles, spiders, and even bees!

After the aquarium, we had lunch and walked to the end of Pier 39. We could see the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, and the sea lion colony! We also saw a sightseeing boat go by and we decided that we would like to do that. The sea lions were so cute! The sign said that they are celebrating their 20th birthday at Pier 39!

After enjoying the pier for awhile, we got on the cable cars and headed back to our hotel. Before boarding the cable cars, we watched how they turn them around. The cable car comes in to a dock facing one way, then the tracks are spun around until the car is facing the opposite way. It was really interesting to watch. We decided to have dinner at the View, which is the restaurant on the top of our hotel. As per the name, the view was really nice! Now we are relaxing and getting ready for more adventures tomorrow!
